The Art of Galen Garapolo

Every aspect of Galan Garapolo's life is enriched by dialogue. Her years of experience as a psychiatric nurse and creative landscaper - and her having lived in every corner of the U.S. - have broadened and deepened her natural sensitivity to her surroundings. She responds by giving life, expression, and room for the other to grow and contribute to the conversation.

Galen's painting reflects this process with an interplay of metaphor, exploration and passion. Inspired by meaningful events, images or emotional atmospheres, she discovers archetypes and applies them to canvas, allowing her instincts to develop each composition.

Originally from Florida, Galan trained at Tulane University and received her B.F.A. at Louisiana State University Baton Rouge. A resident of Oak Park since 1984, she has lived in Louisiana, Maine, St. Louis, Seattle and Chicago....Galen continues to explore many media and presentational arrangements, most recently collage using elements from her recycled polyprints and mono-prints.
